Baby Feet.

Did you know?

Baby’s foot shape can be affected by their position in the mothers uterus

Sometimes babies are born with their feet turned down and inwards (positional talipes), other times they are up and outwards (calcaneovalgus).

This usually gets better in the first few months as baby grows.

Gentle exercises to the foot might help.

What can you do?

When your baby is relaxed, gently move the foot in the opposite direction. Up and outwards for positional talipes, or down and inwards for calcanoevalgus, and hold for a few seconds. Nappy changes are a great time for stretching!

You can also try stroking or tickling the foot to see if you can stimulate the muscles and encourage movement.

Moisturisers may be helpful if the skin is dry and cracking due to tightness. This is very common.

Remember

Baby’s foot shape will usually correct in the first few months.

Occasionally there are more serious foot conditions that mimic the above.
